I did the gps maps for today's ride in 2 parts, Inning to Landsberg and then Landsberg south to Fussen. Not sure why I did it this way but you'll figure it out. Hope my navigator can figure it out, too...
The first part of the trip takes us to Landsberg am Lech where we connect with the VCA. We take a left in Landsberg and will be heading south for most of the rest of the trip. And we didn't start in Inning am Ammersee, but in Utting.
After our left at Landsberg we ride to the Fussen area at the foot of the Bavarian Alps.
A convention of crows convened at our campground at
precisely 0430. Lots and lots of
crows were in attendance and it was a raucous affair. Apparently there is a lot for crows to discuss among
themselves at that hour. By 0500 we
were ready to shake the dew off the tent and pack it all up. It was a bit chilly, but we hit the
road a bit before 0600 with a promise to stop in Landech am Lech for coffee and
something to eat.

Our campground was great, except for the swarms of mosquitoes
after the sun went down. We tried
to hide in the tent but they were persistent, so Lorie says. Anyway, our trip to the campingplatz
took us 20 km or so off route, so we had to navigate back to our plotted route
and then get to Landech. We chose
a road that we thought would be lightly traveled but it turned out to be a busy
road with folks who must have been going to work. But everyone was courteous, even if we did cause some
slowdown on the steep hilly sections.
After a few wrong turns and GPS misinterpretations (GPS can’t
be wrong, right?), we found our way into the pretty village of Landech and
tucked into a couple cups of coffee and some kuchen. While we enjoyed coffee we studied our maps and found a
fairly easy way to ride west out of Landech and get to a point that intersects
with the north-south running VCA.
After about 5 km, Yahtzee!, we crossed over the Lechbruck in Lanech and
soon found the VCA. We turned left
(south) and were on our way.

It was super nice to be on a paved bike path after riding
roads. The path winds its way
through very rural farmland, alongside the Lech River. There was the occasional dirt section,
but even these were great surface.

We rode to Lechbruck Am See on the Lech and will stay here tonight.

There was an alpenhorn concert down by
the river and so we had to go to that. On the way we spied a crazy Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn type of raft coming down the river. It turns out that it is a tourist thing.

But the concert was played from the raft once it docked and disembarked its passengers. Here’s a short video.
The mountains beckon and tomorrow we ride the Fernpass. Should be interesting as the weather looks a bit sketchy.
